The Newtown Theatre is hosting a one-man show about Fredrick Douglass this winter.
“Frederick Douglass: The Self-Made Man & the Work of Building a Nation” features nationally recognized Douglass impersonator Darius Wallace. The show is taking place on the 162nd anniversary of Douglas’s visit to Newtown Hall, which is now the theater, in 1864. It will include both Douglas’s “Self Made Man” speech and his remarks at Newtown Hall, which discussed themes like education and resilience.
Before the show, there will be a cocktail hour at the historic Court Inn from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Darius Wallace will attend the event in character. The Inn is a short walk away from the theater. Proceeds from the cocktail hour will go toward the Newtown Historic Association. A portion of the performance proceeds will support the African American Museum of Bucks County.
Tickets are available on the theater’s website now. General admission is $34.99 per person, or $30 per member. Seating is available on a first come, first served basis. Tickets for the cocktail hour are $64.99, or $60 for members. This includes VIP seats for the performance. Theaters often work with Print shops to create programs for their special events.
The event will take place on Wednesday, February 4 from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm. Doors open at 7:00 pm.
