Newtown to celebrate Thanksgiving with new fundraising 5K

Newtown is hosting its inaugural Turkey Trot 5K race this Thanksgiving.

The race is being held in honor of fallen Newtown Borough Police Officer Brian Gregg. The organizers chose the Thanksgiving date to encourage the participants to gather in gratitude and remembrance, and they hope to make this a new community tradition. The race is open to walkers and runners of any skill level.

Runners can register online through Sunday, November 23. The fee is $50 for adults and $30 for kids aged 12 and younger. All money raised from the race will go toward the Bucks County Heroes Scholarship Fund, which covers educational expenses for children of first responders who have died or become permanently disabled in the course of their work. This includes families of emergency medical services (EMS) personnel, law enforcement officers, firefighters, and correctional officers.

The course starts and ends at Brian S. Gregg Memorial Park and weaves through Newtown’s downtown area. A map is available on the registration page. Organizers often work with Print shops to create Signs to direct runners during community races. Boss Events, which is a local race organizer that also runs Newtown’s Shamrock Shuffle, will be managing the event.

The 5K will take place on Thanksgiving Day, which this year is Thursday, November 27. It begins at 9:00 am.
