Newtown to host historic vendor fair
The Newtown Historic Association is accepting vendor applications for its 49th annual Market Day event this fall.
The event was inspired by the colonial tradition of bringing livestock, crops, and homemade items into town to sell. It now includes historical reenactments, shows, and artisan foods and crafts.
There will be stages featuring puppet shows and live music. Historic crafting demonstrations will include candle making, wool spinning, chair caning, quilting and rug hooking, and reenactors will be performing behind Court Inn. Representatives from Bowman’s Wildflower Preserve will be teaching about native plants in Patriot Park. Organizers often use brochure printing services to share information about local history at their events.
Market Day is free to attend, but food and crafts will be available for purchase. Some activities, like scarecrow-making and hayrides, have a small participation fee that needs to be paid in cash. The ATM at First National Bank will be open.
The vendor application is available to fill out on the Historic Association’s website. Artisans, crafters, food makers, food trucks, and colonial craft demonstrators are all eligible. The fee is $100 for a standard-size booth and $175 for an oversized booth. Participation is free for colonial demonstrators who are not selling a product and $50 for those who are.
Market Day will take place on Saturday, October 4, from 10 am to 4 pm.
