The Bucks County Community College Foundation is hosting its 18th Annual Salute to Mothers Scholarship Tea in Newtown later this week.
The event will take place outside under a tent in the Tyler Gardens on the Community College’s Newtown campus. Tea sandwiches and desserts will be served, and violinist Claudia Pellegrini will perform. There will be a Kentucky Derby theme, and attendees are encouraged to wear their most elaborate spring hats. Two Bucks County Community College (BCCC) students who have previously received Salute to Mothers scholarships will speak during the tea.
Tickets are available online for $65 per person or $400 per table of eight. Those interested can make additional donations to the scholarship fund on the ticket sales page. Several local and regional businesses are sponsoring the tea. Organizers often use banner printing services to recognize sponsors at their events.
BCCC Professor Emerita Betty Tsai founded the Salute to Mothers Scholarship program in 2007 after seeing the challenges that her students with children faced in balancing supporting their families and paying for their education. Since then, the tea event has raised more than $330,000 to benefit 225 students. Last year, 37 scholarships were awarded to mothers studying at BCCC.
This year’s tea will take place this Friday, May 2 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at BCCC’s Newtown campus.
