The Martha Washington Gardening Club will be giving a lecture in January at the American Legion in Newtown.
Creating a Native Pollinator Garden is a program where aspiring gardeners can learn how to create gardens that benefit the local environment. The presenters of the event are Connie Fairchild and Catherine Beath, two experienced gardeners who have won awards for their gardens. The duo will discuss their gardens and cover topics such as what native plant species work well and which invasive plants to be wary of. The program will also educate guests about what potential pollinators will be attracted to their gardens.
The Martha Washington Gardening Club that formed in 1935 to promote public interest in activities such as horticulture, civic beautification, and flower arranging. Members of the club are also involved in providing garden therapy services to assisted living facilities and giving presentations about healthy horticulture practices. The organization hosts field trips every fall and spring, and offers affordable workshops its members can attend.
The gardening presentation will be on Wednesday, January 25 and will begin at 1:30 pm. No registration or membership to the Martha Washington Gardening Club is needed to attend the event, though participants are asked to bring a $5 guest fee to the program.
