Those interested in local historical buildings can partake in an upcoming walking tour held by the Newtown Historic Association.
The Newtown Historic Association's Holiday House Tour is a winter tradition where participants can explore 12 historical destinations at their own pace. The tour will consist of private and public buildings, such as the Newtown Fire Association and Newtown Library Company. Guests can watch cooking demonstrations, enjoy musical entertainment, and sample mulled cider and cheese. No picture-taking or high heels will be allowed inside the houses.
The Newtown Historic Association was formed in 1964 in response to the demolition of the building George Washington used as a headquarters after the battle of Trenton. The group hosts many events each year, like Tavern Night and Market Day. The organization also arranges walking tours in the community and historical reenactments. People can purchase an individual membership for $25 to receive access to the association's newsletter and discounted admission to the group's events.
The holiday house tour will be on Saturday, December 3 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The cost is $35 per person, though members of the Newtown Historic Association can pay $30 instead. People can purchase tickets in advance online or at the Newtown Book & Record Exchange. Organizations like this may advertise their walking tours to the community by using flyer printing services.
