Market Day is on the way

The annual Market Day event will be held in Newtown early next month.

The day has been established to commemorate the history and culture of the local community. The public is invited to attend and participate in a variety of exhibitions and music programs, and to learn more about the area’s colonial roots.

This year’s Market Day will include booths filled with vendors selling food, crafts, and other products, and demonstrations of colonial activities such as rug hooking, weaving, quilting, and chair caning. This year, there will also be a Farmers’ Market where visitors can purchase locally grown produce. In addition, there will be folk music, children’s activities, horse drawn carriage and hay rides, a raffle, and a puppet theater. There will also be a colonial militia encampment carrying out military exercises throughout the day.

Downtown restaurants will be open and catering to a colonial theme. Those planning to attend may want to bring cameras for capturing images of the events for sharing with others via later postcard printing.

Market Day will be held this Saturday, October 3 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm in downtown Newtown, at various locations between Sterling and Center Streets and State and Chancellor Streets. There will be no entrance fee, though vendors will be charging for their products or services. A shuttle bus service will be available.
