For all Newtown conservationists and those of who love plants, nature and the great outdoors, Newtown Township EAC in partnership with Bird Town will be presenting Newtown Township’s Bird Town 2nd Annual Native Seed and Plant Exchange later this week. Attendees can either bring plants or seeds for exchange or buy from others.
Those exchanging should bring their labeled native bush, tree, or perennials in a bag or pot. Suggested containers are juice or milk cartons, paper cups, butter or salad containers, terra-cotta or plastic plant pots, or anything else that might come in handy. They should also not forget to add drainage holes.
Seeds need to be in Envelopes or baggies and labeled—it is suggested that green-fingered folk should bring at least two of each.
Since the key word here is “native” the organization must preapprove any nonnative plant before it is brought to the venue. The association has a list of unapproved plants and seeds on its webpage and also cautions attendees to not bring invasive or diseased plants. Flowering plants should make beautiful subjects for poster printing. The event will be free and snacks will be provided.
The exchange is scheduled for September 27 at Newtown Bird Town, Clark Nature Center, 235 Durham Road, Newtown, from 8:00 am till noon. More info is available on the event’s website.Get a Free Quote for Envelopes
