Greenwich, Connecticut is beginning to prepare for the Pineapple Classic 5k run, currently scheduled for this May.
If those in the Greenwich area want to have fun, get dirty, carry a pineapple to victory, and help raise funds for cancer research with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, this annual event is the perfect opportunity to get involved.
The event is held in four different segments spanning from 9:00 am to 11:15 am, each tailored to different levels athleticism. Different waves include Kekoa (warrior), Wiki (fast/runners), Honu (turtle/walkers) and Ohana (family friendly).
The Classic attracts serious runners and families alike, and it features fun, varied obstacles like hay bales, climbing walls, and hurdles. Prizes will be given to the fastest teams/individuals in each category and to those who raise the most funds for the day.
Last year, roughly 500 participants helped the Pineapple Classic to raise over $120,000 for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This year, the Society hopes to raise upwards of $134,000 with community support.
Teams and individuals can sign up for the event in advance through the race’s website, and regular registration fees are $55 per person with a team/individual fundraising goal of $50. For further information, check out the Pineapple Classic 5k’s website.
