These parcels are in Cos Cob and in easy driving distance of Greenwich. They span about 107 acres of open space and include the Cos Cob Pond which is 4.6 acres in size and about two miles of walking trails. The design and planning construction, maintenance and amenities will be supported by the funding.
The property was selected by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CT-DEEP) through a review process that was competitive and carried out with the help of the Connecticut Greenways Council. Grants awarded through the program this year will finance a variety of trail-related improvements, including new construction, rehabilitation work, bridge upgrades, accessibility enhancements, and trailhead improvements. Funding will also support project planning, design activities, and maintenance for the long term, helping broaden opportunities for public trail use.
Governor Ned Lamont said:
“[Such] investments will improve access to the outdoors, strengthen local economies, attract visitors, encourage healthy lifestyles, and help connect people to the communities where they live and work. I’m proud that we’re continuing to invest in projects that will benefit residents and visitors for generations to come.”
