An independent supermarket chain, DeCicco & Sons, is planning to open its first location in Connecticut in the Glenville area of Greenwich. It will be located in what is now a vacant store that was once the home of a Stop & Shop until a year ago.
The store of DeCicco & Sons will have an entrance in the rear, an enclosed loading dock, and a large refrigeration unit. Robert Marchant, a staff writer for Progressive Grocer, said that it was a blow to the community and merchants in the area when Stop & Shop closed as the store helped to bring customers to the shopping center in Glenville.
Guy Sutton, real estate executive of the property, confirmed that a lease has been signed with DeCicco & Sons. News of such new stores is often made known throughout a community with flyer printing.
DeCicco & Sons was founded in 1973. John DeCicco. Sr. purchased a small grocery store in the Bronx along with his family, where he worked as a delivery boy, and which offered high-quality food to a wide range of customers. The store has a reputation for providing a friendly and personal approach to customers as well as a large selection of food.
There has been no timeline set as to when construction will begin or when the new store will open.
