Greenwich joins statewide efforts of sustainability

The Greenwich Board of Selectmen recently approved a plan to join Sustainable CT, an initiative across the state that includes tools and resources, best practices, and peer recognition and learning for sustainability.

Peter J. Tesei, First Selectman, commented that the town is excited about joining this program, as it already has many sustainability measures, but this initiative will help to unite them into one cohesive scheme. It will also enable the town to work with other towns and share sustainability measures.

Director of Conservation for Greenwich, Denise Savageau, added that Sustainable CT will be a valuable tool in helping the town make progress in its sustainability efforts. Her department is in charge of such efforts and plans to take full advantage of what this initiative has to offer so that the town can reach its goals.

There are many aspects of Sustainable CT, including improving recycling programs, reducing energy use and increasing renewable energy, protecting cultural resources, and supporting local businesses.

Director of the Institute for Sustainable Energy, Lynn Stoddard, is pleased that Greenwich decided to join Sustainable CT, and is looking forward to working with the town in furthering developing its sustainability initiatives to reach its certification.
