Fairfield readies for American Chamber Orchestras 15th Seasons first concert

Fairfield supporters of the Arts will want to mark their Calendars for the first concert of the American Chamber Orchestra’s 15th season, which will be coming at the end of October.

The program will begin with the Bacchanale from Samson et Dalila Op. 47 by Camille Saint-Saens. That will be followed by the Piano Concerto No. 2 by Johannes Brahms, featuring pianist David Korevaar. Pines of Rome by Ottorino Respighi will be the concluding work.

The American Chamber Orchestra, with its 65 members, prides itself in performing classical, early romantic, and high baroque music, as well as selected modern pieces. Many young professional soloists have been invited to perform with the orchestra over the past years. The orchestra also features more well-known professional soloists such as David Korevaar, who spent many years teaching at Connecticut’s Westport School of Music and at the University of Bridgeport.

The other concerts scheduled for this season will be an Evening with Gilbert and Sullivan in March 2018 and a Sousa and Sibelius evening in June. The March program will include excerpts from Iolanthe, Mikado, Yeoman of the Guard, and Pirates of Penzance, while the June concert will feature the rousing Stars and Stripes Forever followed by performances by the 9th Concerto Competition winners and concluding with Sibelius Symphony No. 2.

This opening season performance will be October 28 at the First Presbyterian Church, 2475 Easton Turnpike, Fairfield starting at 7:30 pm.
