Fairfield Parks and Recreation will be holding its annual Independence Day Fireworks in early July, and many here in Fairfield will be grabbing their pails and shovels and heading to this year's San Sculpture Contest coming in mid-August.
On Saturday, July 5 the sky will light up over Penfield and Jennings beaches with Fairfield's annual Fireworks Show. All ages are welcome and admission will be free. The fireworks display will begin at 9:15 pm.
Whether a castle, sea monster, or anything thing else that can be imagined, participants will have free-range for their creativity at the annual Sand Sculpture contest taking place a month later. Only natural materials such as driftwood, seaweed, and shells will be accepted.
The event will have no registration fees. Individual entrants under 18 and teams with at least one member under 18 years old are invited to show up and start sculpting.
Judges will be awarding prizes to the most artistic, original, and realistic sculpture, as well as the best creation by an individual aged eight or younger.
Organizations that hold contests usually have pictures taken of the winners and their creations. Many times, they take the photos to local Print shops to use in promotional poster printing for the following year.
The Sand Sculpture contest will take place Sunday, August 17 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at Penfield Beach.
