The Alzheimer's Association of Enfield will host The Walk to End Alzheimer's in a couple of weeks.
Town residents are encouraged to attend the walk at 299 Elm Street Senior Center in Enfield. Participants can sign up starting at 8:00 am before an honorable tribe ceremony for victims of the disease at 9:00 am.
The event is a two-mile walk that teaches about the disease, clinical trials, where to find support, and services for those with Alzheimer's provided by the organization, and ways walk participants can advocate for the cause. Alzheimer's is the sixth main cause of death in the country.
Karla Vince and Kate Bartelmo, Women Champions of the Alzheimer's Association, will head the Enfield committee for the walk. Vince has spent 30 years with the organization, while Bartelmo joined the organization at The Bushnell Park Memory Walk nearly 15 years ago. She has also been the walk's chair over many years. Bartelmo said her family has been affected by dementia through the loss of her grandmother and with the people at the organization.
There will be activities for the family, a raffle, music, and a promise garden. Radio personality Jerry Kristafer will emcee the festivities.
The event takes place on Sunday, September 17. Promotional Products such as Mugs and T-Shirts can be sold to fund raise for charities and causes such as this.
