The Riverside Reptiles Education Center (RREC) will be showcasing the past and present of the cold-blooded animals in a special educational event this January.
The event is part of the Jurassic Classroom series run by Patrick Murphy and dubbed “Reptiles Then and Now.” The Center’s animals will be placed alongside fossil specimens from millions of years ago. The display will help to illustrate how modern reptiles evolved from ancient lizards and dinosaurs.
“Reptiles Then and Now” will also include a presentation on the ancestors of modern amphibians, invertebrates, and reptiles, with RREC animal ambassadors on hand to talk with. Visitors can also touch and interact with the fossils and live animals. The educational event is aimed at dinosaur and animal lovers aged 10 and older, but is open to younger children as well.
Attendees can also explore the RREC’s grounds, which contain over 100 species of amphibians and reptiles, from anacondas to giant tortoises, covering over 17, 000 square feet. The Center describes itself as the only zoo of its kind in New England and runs daily live shows and exhibits.
Zoos and museums often use special educational events to encourage attendance, often using methods like brochure printing for both advertising and information.
“Reptiles Then and Now” will take place on Saturday, January 17 at the Riverside Reptiles Education Center in Enfield.
