Enfield to host holiday run

The Independence Day 5K will be returning to Enfield this July, looking to celebrate America’s birthday with an athletic challenge.

The course will go through the Historic Enfield downtown area. In addition to the main five-kilometer run, there will be a 1K for children 13 and under. Top participants will receive medals, while all will get a finisher ribbon. The event typically attracts runners from across New England, ranging from serious runners to those looking for recreation and fitness.

The run will be followed by an afterparty with a medal ceremony and refreshments, including beverages and fruit. The first 150 to sign up will receive a complementary T-shirt. Runs and other athletic events often use printing services or trophy shops to help create unique awards and souvenirs for participants.

The race is sponsored by Lia Block and part of the Enfield Fourth of July Town Celebration, which also includes a Ride and Shine Car Show on the following day and more. Event organizers say that their mission is

“To provide the residents of Enfield CT and the surrounding communities a three-day Fourth of July Celebration at no charge, including music, parade, races, demonstrations, kid's ride's and games, with much, much more!"

The 2026 edition of the Independence Day 5K will take place on the morning of July 11 on Enfield Street.
