Art Squash event to debut in Enfield
The Enfield Culture and Arts Commission will be hosting a new event this October with an unusual theme, as it invites local creators to contribute to Art Squash.
The event invites local artists to invent their own meaning for the event’s name by responding to the prompt of “squash”, whether their interpretation be based on fruit, crushing, or any other definition of the world. The goal is to create a new recurring event that will showcase local artists’ creativity. Curators will select work that appeals to multiple senses, explaining that the goal is to connect to the audience’s lives:
The exhibition of submitted works will include an opening night gala. Gala events like this typically offer a chance to meet and interact with the artists and sample food and drinks, with business cards and contact information sometimes exchanged to make connections. The exhibition of selected works will be on display for two days afterwards. The online selection process will give preference to visual artists from Hartford County and the Historic Village of Thompsonville.
The inaugural edition of Art Squash will hold its opening night gala on October 17, with public display on the 18th and 19th.

“Through this exploration, and open call to creativity, ART SQUASH aims to create a dialogue about the multifaceted relationship between art and everyday life.”
