Originally called Freshwater Plantation and incorporated in 1683, Enfield, Connecticut received its present name after the Middlesex community of Enfield Town around 1700. Present day Enfield has a larger footprint due in part to the merging of the towns of Hazardville and Thompsonville with Enfield. In the past Enfield has supported gunpowder and carpet industries, but today its largest employer is Danish toy manufacturer Lego, which has its U.S. headquarters here.
