Rotary Club member will raise money at Disneyworld

As an Enfield Rotary Club fundraiser, current club member, and lawyer, Kate Garvey will participate in the ‘Dopey Challenge’ in January.

Taking place at Disneyworld, the challenge is a four-day event involving a 5K race, a 10K race, a half marathon, and a regular marathon, totaling 48.6 miles.

Garvey stated that before she completed her first marathon in Dublin a decade ago, her father laughed at her. This created a sense of determination for her to show him she could do it. Garvey believes one can get addicted to running because it feels good once the body is warmed up.

Over the years, she has also completed the Chicago and Hartford Marathons, but admits a four-day event is new to her. The Dopey Challenge crosses through the Disney Orlando parks, and participants can go on rides or browse shops during the run.

The money Garvey raises, which she is hoping will total $4,860 due to the distance of the event, will help fund projects at the Middle Road Enfield Public Library. They include trail construction in December and building an amphitheater for special events in the spring. Garvey believes the projects will bring the community together and the trail will promote exercise.

The Rotary Club could hire a printing company to make fliers and Posters advertising the run and how the community can donate to Garvey's cause.
