Anna Wilcox, an Enfield Montessori School fourth grader, began picking up trash at her local park on Wednesdays last month.
Her parents and seven-year-old sister Cate helped her do it as part of her karate school requirements. Through their combined efforts, the group cleaned up three plastic Bags in just under a month.
Wilcox has put up Posters encouraging others to clean up the parks in Nathan Hale School Park, Enfield Public Library Park, and Brainerd Park. The town hall will give those who help clean up the parks a certificate as evidence of their good deed and efforts to clean up the town's recreational areas.
According to Chris Rowe, a sensei at Integrity Martial Arts, up to 36 of the school's students complete community service each year. Some have raised funds for autism awareness or rescue shelters, with others asked for food shelter donations instead of birthday presents. He and two of her other teachers believed the project fits Wilcox the best, since she has a strong work ethic and never gives up.
If another student or the town would like to do this project again, they could hire a flyer printing company to advertise the project like Wilcox did.
