New Caribbean restaurant opens in Enfield
There’s a new place for take-away food in Enfield, as My Place Jamaica Way has opened its doors.
The restaurant features Caribbean food such as beef and pork ribs, jerk chicken and burgers, and salads with additions like shrimp, salmon or boiled eggs. There is a seating area as well as a take-home facility. The restaurant is owned and operated by Marcia Dortch, who formerly worked at the Royal Crown Beauty Bar in the same plaza, and has experience of owning and working at a restaurant in Jamaica. The plaza’s Subway franchise closing its doors created an opportunity for her to pursue her passion. Dortch describes her dishes as a featuring a mixture of American and Jamaican inspirations:
The restaurant aims to attract students from the nearby Asnuntuck Community College, as well as people of all ages looking for authentic Caribbean flavours. My Place underwent a “soft opening”, with a higher-profile grand opening event planned for February or close to it. New restaurants often use events and marketing methods like flyer printing to help raise awareness of the dining options.
My Place Jamaica Way is currently open Monday through Saturday at the former Subway location in the Riverview Plaza in Enfield.

“It's more for the grilling on the grilled side, on the jerk side, and barbecue. I put in a little American as well, like zucchini fries."
