Head of senior center steps down after 14 years

Enfield Senior Center director Susan Lather is retiring at the end of July.

According to correspondence between Dawn Homer-Bouthiette, the director of Social Services, and Lather, she will be leaving either on August 1 or very close to that date.

Lather has been in the position since early 2003 and stated that she is leaving because the town is changing. She adds that she is proud and grateful of her time there and will look back upon it fondly.

The senior center in Enfield has more than 90,000 visits every year, which is more than most in the area. It brings in more money as well and has a technology and fitness center, and there are senior programs focusing on health in addition to classes on technology, music, and finances. In addition, it houses the Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame.

Lather has overseen many of the improvements that have occurred at the center. She was invited to the White House Conference on Aging to represent Connecticut in 2005. By 2015, the center had received the Bronze Pinnacle Award and was three times nationally accredited.

Many people in the town are affected by her retirement. Scott Kaupin, the mayor of Enfield, expressed his gratitude over Lather and how she improved that center's diversity and efficiency over her 14-year spell.

The center will have to update its printing materials after she leaves, including Letterheads and Brochures.
