The Enfield Town Council has chosen Christopher Bromson to take over as the Town Attorney by virtue of a 6-5 vote.
The public safety director and safety coordinator would replace eight-year veteran Kevin Deneen, but Shipman & Goodman, the firm that acts as Enfield's labor attorney, explained to the council they could not make that decision, although the new amendment was well written.
Scott Kaupin, Enfield's mayor, disapproved of the amendment and requested Shipman & Goodwin look at it. Other members of the council, such as Joe Bosco, Donna Szewczak, and Greg Stokes, voted against the amendment as well.
The firm stated that Bromson can be appointed by the council but as for him keeping his jobs, the town manager has to make that decision. Bromson was the town attorney for 18 years and has acted as the town manager, safety director and public safety director.
The proposed amendment by William Edgar would allow Bromson to stay the town's safety coordinator with a salary of over $88,000 but the town would need a new public safety director. Once the council finalized the budget for 2017, they would hire one. According to the agenda as it is now, Deneen will keep his appointment.
If the council wants to convince the town manager to approve the amendment, it might want to hire a poster printer to create colorful visuals for its presentation.
