On December 23 and 24, officers of the Enfield Police Department (EPD) showed Christmas spirit as they handed out toys for children of low-income families, continuing a tradition that has lasted more than 50 years.
Residents and their children arrived in the morning, some of them three hours early, to be among the first in line. Michael Krzynowek of the EPD stated that each set of presents is set aside for a specific family, so they could come on either day and receive their gifts.
Krzynowek has participated in the toy drive for almost a decade and had several officers, both active and retired, on hand to serve as ‘helper elves’. In earlier years when demand was smaller, an officer would take the role of Santa too, but more than 350 families needed help in supplying presents to 1,000 children this year.
Some residents who used to donate toys are now in line to receive them because they have fallen on difficult times. According to Mayor Scott Kaupin, more presents have been donated this year than there were last year and he is proud of the department's determination for spreading Christmas cheer.
With Signs and Banners required over the course of the two days, and perhaps mailers needed to highlight the success of the day and thank those involved, local Print companies may find themselves involved in events like this.Get a Free Quote for Print Get a Free Quote for Signs Get a Free Quote for Banners
