Enfield supports military members with 5K

The Veterans Initiative in Enfield will host its first Veterans Day 5K.

This will be an informal run in recognition of the soldiers that have defended the country. It will start at Enfield Street School and cover a small part of the town before coming back at the school to finish. The address for the school is 1318 Enfield Street.

The first 100 people to register will earn a participation medal from the Veteran’s Initiative. Proceeds will go toward providing mentors to veterans after they leave the service.

There are no planned activities to accompany the race as it is the organization's premiere run. In addition, this event is the organization's first fundraiser.

United States Army Retired Master Sergeant George Hendrickson started The Veteran's Initiative this year. He notes that when members of the military leave, they no longer have a close mentor like they did in the service. Hendrickson's mission is to continue the mentorship to military personnel for life.

Registration is $35. Veterans who don the uniform they were given in the service for physical fitness can participate for free. Tickets are available through Eventbrite. In the event that tickets are sold out, interested participants can contact George Hendrickson to register. Startup organizations often use flyer printing as advertisement to find community members who will want to join.

The Veteran's Day 5K is on November 7 from 8:00 am to 11:30 am. Sign-in starts at 8:00 am and the race begins at 9:00 am.
