Enfield recognizes its heroes and high achievers

Enfield has honored two academic scholars, and will soon hand out awards to many academic athletes.

Jocelyn DeGray and Alex Jensen received the John Maciolek Scholarships for 2017. The scholarship was awarded by the post and of the Thompsonville American Legion Post 154, Lucien H. Lefevre. Theodore Plamondon, the deputy commander, was the master of ceremonies.

The scholarship honors a Thompsonville citizen who sacrificed his life for his country in WWII, with children and grandchildren of Post 154 eligible to receive it. DeGray is going to the University of Connecticut as a pharmacy major, while Jensen will study political science at Vermont's Castleton University.

In addition, the Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame welcomes its 22nd class on September 23, with a price of $40 for a ticket to the induction dinner at the Oak Ridge Country Club in Massachusetts. The 1956-57 boys’ basketball team for Enfield High School, former Fermi High School soccer coach Jim Russell, and four athletic alumni make up the induction class. Brent Dietz is known for golf, Marty Green specialized in wrestling, Karen McCartney achieved in tennis, and Liz Zirolli excelled in soccer. The soccer championship in honor of Kevin Barmak will also receive an award for special recognition named after George Daly.

Awards often take the form of certificates that Print companies can supply using professional but colorful graphics and lettering. The awarding officials can then sign and present them.
