On June 4, an Enfield man played his part in a heroic reunion.
Brian Spazzarini and Courtney Cannella saw a mother duck that Sunday afternoon when they were outside of their home on Burnham Road. She had three ducklings with her, and the family of ducks was in the pair's side yard.
According to Canella, she could not take her eyes off them. They attempted to feed the ducks but they began to move away. She watched them go across the street in case a car came down the road before they had crossed. The mother duck reached the other side, but the three ducklings slipped into the storm drain. Cannella stated that this moved her to alert Spazzarini to the incident.
Having been able to slide the drain cover away, Spazzarini jumped into the drain. Cannella was able to record Spazzarini going into the drain, using a bucket to bring up the babies one at a time. He set them down in the grass before they ran to the mother duck, which was under a tree and clearly in distress.
Cannella was astonished and proud that Spazzarini successfully rescued each of the ducklings. Small but positive stories like this often make it into a newsletter made by printing services, highlighting local news that puts a smile on residents’ faces.
