The Enfield Public Library will be marking a historic anniversary this November with a celebration of 150 years of operation.
The Library was first founded as a subscription library in 1874, and since then has grown to a multi-branch public library system, including winning the CT Award for Excellence in Public Library Service in 2003. To celebrate the anniversary, the library is encouraging patrons to write in their “Library Love Letters” about their experiences with the institution and submit them electronically. There will also be an in-person birthday celebration with cake and special activities, presented by the Friends of the Enfield Library and Enfield Culture and Arts Commission.
Visitors are encouraged to drop in throughout the morning to take a piece of cake and share their stories about Enfield Libraries, with reservations encouraged ahead of time to make sure there is enough food. The Pearl Street Library, the system’s first permanent home, is also celebrating its 110th anniversary this year. Public institutions like this often use methods like flyer printing and special events to help explain their purpose and history, especially on major anniversaries and special occasions. Patrons are also invited to suggest their own ways to celebrate the milestone.
The Enfield Library will hold its 150th anniversary celebration on the morning of November 9 at its Middle Road location.
