Enfield event to highlight poetry and creativity
Enfield will be hosting its inaugural Family & Community Poetry Festival this April, aiming to highlight the area’s creative spirit.
The free event is hosted by Enfield’s Poet Laureate Nzima Hutchings, in association with the Enfield Culture and Arts Commission and other local cultural organizations such as the Independent Artists’ Fund. There will be an open mic for people to share their poetry or other creative writing, as well as workshops to help attendees shape their poetic skills. Vendors and exhibitors will be able to purchase their own tables to exhibit artisan goods or local services, with non-profit organizations able to table for free. There will also be family-friendly activities, including a “community art fusion” group creation. Attendees are encouraged to bring canned food to donate to the Enfield Food Shelf.
The Poetry Festival was originally scheduled for October 2024 but re-scheduled to a spring date. Hutchings is an award-winning poet and literary advocate who has also participated in the Enfield community through events like the Torchlight Parade, and meeting with Connecticut’s state Poet Laureate. Events like this often use methods like brochure printing and visual displays to help more effectively convey educational information.
The 1st Enfield Family & Community Poetry Festival will take place on the afternoon of Saturday, April 26 at Enfield Public Library, with admission free to all.
