The Enfield Historical Society has organized a presentation of the life of William Webb, a Connecticut soldier from the Civil War of African American heritage.
Private Webb was a Hartford native and an actual soldier who served in numerous wars in Virginia. He was recruited into the army in 1863 and served in the Twenty-Ninth Regiment of the Connecticut Volunteer Infantry. In the presentation, Webb will be played by Kevin Johnson.
Johnson will present William Webb’s story from an exciting and emotional first-person perspective to paint a vivid mental picture of the struggles African-American soldiers faced in the Infantry during the American Civil War.
He will start by telling the audience about Webb's early life as a young boy in Hartford, then go through his recruitment and training journey and finish the presentation with all the battles he fought in the Civil War. The presentation is based on research and Books written about Private Webb in the Museum of Connecticut History and the Connecticut State Library. Local businesses may choose to sponsor events like this and distribute printed Corporate Gifts to better market their products and services.
Kevin Johnson currently works at the History and Genealogy unit in the State Library. He has been giving these presentations for over 20 years in schools, historical societies, libraries, and other venues to help people better understand Private Webb.
The presentation is scheduled for May 30 at the Fellowship Hall in Enfield Congregational Church, from 7.00 pm to 8.00 pm. It's free and open to everyone in Enfield and beyond.Get a Free Quote for Corporate Gifts Get a Free Quote for Books
