Battle of Powder Hollow took place on August 4 for the Enfield High School Raiders alumni.
The celebration and competition has been going on for two years and involves the alumni of baseball teams from Enfield High School.
The day before, the Hall of Honor for the Raiders inducted its first five members. Dave LaRussa and Jack Taylor came from Pennsylvania and Ohio. Charlie Ragno and Brad Tweedlie drove from Thompsonville and the southern part of Enfield. Florida resident Bill Spanswick, who used to be a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, could not make it to the event.
There was the ‘Decade Wars’, which is a baseball tournament for 50 years’ worth of alumni. However, the event had to move to Tolland's Star Hill Athletic Center for families due to rain. The 1990s alumni team beat the 1980s alumni team while the 2010s alumni team beat the 2000s alumni team. In the finals, the 2010s alumni team defeated the 1990s alumni.
Brian Riley, class of 1994, organized the event, mostly from his Arizona home. The first competition in 2016 pitted alumni from 1994 and 2001 against each other. Organizing teams for this competition started last year.
Clothing Print shops could make shirts for the participants with the year they graduated and the number they had on the baseball team.
