Eight Explorers awarded at banquet

The 47th annual Enfield Police Explorers banquet was held on January 23 this year.

Eight Explorers were presented with awards as their friends and family looked on. Examples of the awards given included ones for the best attendance to the “most outstanding Explorer”. Matthew Vieweg was one of the eight to be honored, and gave a speech in which he talked about the hard work each Explorer had put into the program that year. He described the group as “one big family”.

According to program leader Lt. Willie Pedemonti, there are currently 26 Explorers in the program, ranging from 13 to 21 years of age. However, most resign once they turn 18. Pedemonti was in the program during the 80s and has monitored the Enfield group for five years. The Enfield Police Explorers are one of the oldest groups of Explorers in the country.

Each Explorer must go to a two-hour class every week, help law enforcement during community events, and spend time riding with police officers during their typical day. Pedemonti believes that the Explorers will be able to use the skills they learn in any career field – not just law.

Brochures are a great way for people to learn about the Explorers and possibly join the organization. Law enforcement could work with a printing company to design and Print the Brochures.
