Connecticut banquet to honor athletic scholars

A previous athletic director of Enfield, along with nine other honorees, will be inducted into the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference Hall of Honor by the Connecticut Association of Schools.

Barbara Startup was a contributor to CAS-CIAC and an athletic administrator in Avon, Enfield, and Glastonbury. During that time, she was on several athletic committees as an athletic director representative. For 20 years, she was the girls’ volleyball tournament director and spent seven years as the softball tournament director. She was also on the CIAC Board of Control.

At Plantsville's Aqua Turf Club on April 11, the CAS-CIAC will honor Startup along with Bill Baron, John Daly, Bob Ford, Paul Hoey, Jerry Auclair, Alan Bookman, Jean Kenney Daly, George Ford, and Pat Llodra. Daly and the two Fords will be inducted posthumously. Tickets are available for the public to purchase on the organization's website.

The CAS-CIAC Hall of Honor started in 2015, when it inducted its first class. As of this year, it has inducted four classes of individuals who have had outstanding athletic careers and have made the organization stronger through their efforts and contributions.

At least 10 years of service is a requirement for consideration for the Hall of Honor. Nominations are submitted online and a committee selects the honorees. Letters notifying the honorees or their families include official Letterheads from the CAS-CIAC.
