Community honors veterans with parade

On Sunday, November 9, Enfield residents remembered those who fought for the United States, whether they survived or fell in battle, in the annual Veterans Day parade.

After Theodore J. Plamondon Jr. of the veteran council gave a speech, the parade started at the town hall and went down Route 5. Afterwards, there was a wreath-laying ceremony.

Scott Kaupin, mayor of Enfield, gave his thanks to those who served and stated that the town celebrates veterans every day. Army's 4th Infantry Division Jim Lafountain was injured while training to go to Vietnam so he did not participate in the war, but had close friends who did, and he stated that the unit was like family.

Korean War veteran and six-year Navy combat air crewman Richard Smith has been present at every parade in Enfield. He commented that there were times when he only had one chance to land his plane on the ship and WWII planes had to go overboard due to their weight. Several politicians gave their thanks during the ceremony, with Senator John Kissel being among those to speak.

With the parade being an annual event, residents may benefit from more information and reminders of the date and time. A flyer printing company could help with this by printing leaflets and putting them around town to generate awareness.
