Bank robbery shakes Enfield

An Enfield bank is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a robbery suspect who held up the Webster Branch bank at the Scitico Plaza. Flyer printing is sometimes used to help nap criminals by posting a likeness of the offender around the town where the bank heist or other type of criminal activity occurred.

This particular thief may have made the search quite a bit easier for authorities since he chose not to wear a mask during the heist. The suspects face was clearly captured on bank security cameras as he stood before a teller demanding money.

The white male suspect donned a knit cap, wore a grey hooded sweatshirt and black gloves. The robber escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash. He was last seen heading toward the Dunkin Donuts Plaza on Hazard Avenue.

The Enfield bank robbery occurred on a Friday afternoon which happens to be the most popular day of the week for bank crimes, according to the FBI. U.S. bank heists have become more commonplace in recent years as a growing number of financially insolvent Americans resort to desperate measures to obtain cash.

Despite high unemployment rates, financial institution robberies have actually declined as of late. Figures compiled by the FBI says the 1,146 bank robberies reported during the second quarter of 2010 fell to 1,023 in the same quarter in 2011.

U.S. bank robbers got away with various amounts of cash 91 percent time, stealing close to $8 million. Less than 25 percent of the loot, or $7.8 million was recovered, according to FBI statistics that were recorded as of August 2011.
