ACC to receive funding boost

Due to an increase in available funds, Enfield's Asnuntuck Community College (ACC) Foundation will contribute an additional $25,000 each year to the community college.

The foundation has enjoyed success in collecting donations and hosting fundraisers throughout last year and into 2016. The funds will go toward its Academic Skills Center, which gives students access to tutors and other learning services at no charge.

From the funds, $10,000 will be used for staff and students to go to the Be Like Brit Orphanage in Haiti as a service learning trip. They will help the children there and build a house for a local family. Participates are set to depart this month. Another $10,000 will fund more Asnuntuck scholarships and program and project grants.

James Lombella, president of the college, expressed his gratitude at the extra support, explaining that the money helps the college give each student a good education and life experience. Both would be impossible without contributions and help from the community.

Last year, the Foundation put on a Presidential Inauguration and Commencement reception, Homecoming, and a social after hours for the Chamber of Commerce. Asnuntuck Community College Institutional Development and Community Engagement Director Keith Madore commented that local businesses in the area also donate, citing the $5,000 from the Westfield Bank and the Andrews Associates Student Scholarship.

Small businesses or individuals giving out scholarships can go to a printing company to create certificates and paper applications.
