Westminster classes to focus on importance of pollinators

The Boulder County Nature Association will be hosting workshops in Westminster that shine a spotlight on pollinators, and the public is invited to come and learn more about their vital role.

During the ‘Pollinators and their Plant Partners’ session, attendees will have an opportunity to learn from plant expert Amy Yarger, who is the Butterfly Pavilion’s Horticultural Director. She will discuss the intricate relationships between plants and the environments in which they grow, as well as provide tips on how to identify the butterflies, bees, moths, birds, beetles, flies, and other pollinators. There will also be a discussion about the importance of genetic diversity, and the use of native plants in the landscape will also be addressed.

The second session will be a field class, and the attendees will take to the pavilion’s gardens and also Big Dry Creek to conduct pollinator surveys and also observe them going about their day in their natural setting. Both classes are geared towards adult learners, and those who will be participating in the field session are reminded to bring along water, snacks, sunscreen insect repellent, and any other supplies they might need for the outdoors. Booklet printing can be utilized to craft manuals to help those who participate identify the insects they encounter while out in the field.

This event has planned for July 13 and 16. Those who register will be given additional details about locations and times, and more information is available on the Broomfield Enterprise website.
