Multilingual welcome pole installed at recreation centers entrance

People who visit West View Recreation Center in Westminster will be greeted in several languages thanks to a new pole erected in the garden.

City of Westminster officials previously enlisted banner printing services with ‘hello’ written in several different languages for the Recreation Center’s entrance. The Signs and Banners were welcoming however Molina Vaughn, West View’s Guest Relations Clerk, felt that they should be replaced by something permanent. She stated that:

“I feel that installing a permanent structure would really convey the idea of being a welcoming facility.”

The idea was backed by Chuck Scerbo who is the Recreation Supervisor. He helped Vaughn design the pole and oversaw its installation. He stated that:

“It was a great idea... Once we all agreed on the design, she contacted a carving instructor who has held classes at our recreation facilities… We’re very happy with how it looks.”

The new pole will say ‘welcome’ in the city’s top seven spoken languages. Staff from the golf maintenance team were tasked with taking out a part of the flowerbed and cementing the pole into its new home right in front of the Recreation Center’s entrance. Greenhouse staff also carried out some work on the nearby parking lot flower beds so that they can match the new pole. The pole can be seen after the sun sets thanks to a solar-powered lamp fixed on top of it.
