Jeffco expands vaccine availability

Jefferson County Public Health has expanded the eligibility for appointments at the vaccination clinics to include residents aged 70 and older.

Appointments for eligible parties were held at the Arvada Fire Protection Training Center. Close to 200 people over the age of 70 were there on the first day to receive their first doses of the vaccine. People from parts of Westminster should be eligible for this program.

According to the county’s spokesman, the availability for appointments county’s website will be updated every week. New spaces for sign-ups should be posted every Thursday or Friday. Appointments can be made on the county’s webpage.

By the start of February, about 40,000 people had received their first doses of the vaccine. A quarter of them have gotten both of their doses. Most of those doses were given to first-responders and health-care workers. Printing services can be used to share information about vaccines.

The JCPH manager of the Office of Pandemic Response, Christine Billings, put out a release that said:

“We believe we've come close to saturation among our Jeffco health-care workers and first responders. Now we can begin to make sure that other populations in Jeffco who are vulnerable to the virus, such as adults aged 70 and older, have greater access to the vaccine."

The JCPH would like to remind people that they should not have had any other vaccines within 14 days of receiving the COVID vaccine, and should not have tested positive for the virus within the last 14 days.
