Free tolls on C-470 until August

Sections of the C-470 located between Interstate 25 and Wadsworth Boulevard have been undergoing a revamp for four years, and highway officials have stated that the new express lanes are open for testing.

Motorists can use the newly installed toll lanes free of charge until the middle of August. By then, the testing period for the new technology will be completed. The project cost $276m and has resulted in two new toll lanes added to the westbound side of the highway, and one new toll lane heading to Wadsworth Boulevard. The new lanes should ease traffic congestion in Denver and nearby towns such as Westminster.

Two lanes without tolls will run in each direction. Motorists can choose to use the free lanes instead of the lanes with tolls, although the officials believe that the toll lanes will be good for faster riders. The price of the toll will vary from $0.65 to $3.60 depending on what time it is. Motorcycles can use the express lanes for free and there will be no discounts for vehicles carrying multiple passengers. Banner printing can be used to show prices and restrictions.

Tolls started being collected on the I-25 North Lanes Project for the first time as well. The toll price ranges from $1.05 to $2.25. Motorcycles and vehicles with three or more people that have the Switchable HOV Transponder Pass will not pay the toll.
