Firefighter training available in Adams 12

Aims Community College is collaborating with the Adams 12 school district in order to inspire a new generation of first responders to take up the cause.

John Dugall, Aims College’s fire science program director, stated:

“I feel it’s important because they get to experience what firefighting is all about before they decide to pursue a degree in the field of study. It also gives them the necessary certification to become a rural reserve, part-time, volunteer firefighter.”

FutureForward, the new technology and career campus located at Washington Square, will be one of the first Adams 12 schools to offer fire science classes. Graduates from this campus will be able to continue the course at Aims Community College or transfer their credits to a different school. Other locations in and around Westminster can be expected to start offering the same course.

According to officials from FutureForward, the school district was turning away up to 500 students from a similar program that was offered at Bollman Campus. This highlighted the need to construct FutureForward and meet the demand from students. Promotional Pens are commonly seen in schools during events like this.

Students studying at FutureForward will be able to get Firefighter 1 and HaztMat certifications. The skillset received from this course can be used to pursue careers in the military, or in fire and rescue services. The first semester of the year will offer both in-person and online classes.
