CCM wins in every category at annual press convention

Colorado Community Media (CCM) won 50 awards at this year’s state press competition.

CCM publishes 18 weekly and 2 monthly editions. They are printed and distributed in several counties such as Denver, Jefferson, and Adams, meaning Westminster residents can get their hands on a copy. Local Print shops are tasked with ensuring that the editions are ready.

The Colorado Press Association gave out the awards for weeklies based on the sizes of the classifications, ranging from Class 1 to Class 5. CCM took home awards in every one of those categories. Monthlies get a class of their own.

The ‘Time to Talk’ project was one of the most celebrated projects. It is a series written by Jessica Gibbs, Nick Puckett, and Alex DeWind, which gives an in-depth look at the state of Douglas County’s mental health, specifically on how addiction and mental health are connected, and the rise in mental health cases in prisons. Gibbs and DeWind also took home first-place prizes for their works on education, enterprise, and the effects of social media and technology on the emotional intelligence of young people.

Another well-received series was ‘No Place to Call Home’. It was written by Ellis Arnold and explored the challenges facing the growing homeless population in Englewood.

Overall, CCM won 23 first-place prizes and an additional 27 second-place prizes in a wide range of categories that included agriculture, sports, editorial writing, environment, and others.
