Longmont discovers dahlia designs

Hailing from the mountains of Mexico and Central America, dahlias have long been cultivated and collected for their floral beauty, and they will be the centerpieces for a Longmont workshop.

Happy Day Plants has teamed up with Slupik MiniFarm flower growers to offer an activity that will see everyone enjoy a hands-on experience when it comes to designing dahlias. This seasonal session will run for two hours, and the materials needed will be provided.

Attendees in the class will be working with various dahlia cultivars, and other local flowers in season at the time will also be in the mix. A container will also be provided, and everyone will be able to take their masterpiece home with them. While they work, the facilitator will provide tips for successfully growing these flowers from tubers, including how to lift, clean and store them for winter for potting up again in the spring. Advance ticket purchase is required, priced at $90 per ticket.

Working with flowers or other plants can be both fun and refreshing, and the skills learned can often be used in the home garden. Handouts of gardening tips and other learning materials can be prepared by local Stationery printers.

Designing With Dahlias will supply floral design fun on Saturday, August 29. Happy Day Plants is located at 501 Main St in Longmont.
