The Champion for Children Awards took place as part of a bigger fundraising effort. The benefit in question was held at the end of April at a golf club in Vallejo.
The Solano Coalition for Better Health (SCBH) backed the rationale behind the awards. Poster printing in Vallejo could be used if the partners behind the project want to host the event on another occasion.
Joanie Erickson, Executive Director at the SCBH, has told the Vallejo Times-Herald:
“What we’re here to do is make sure that the needs of children are really highlighted and those who work to benefit children and their welfare are honored. A lot of times they don’t get the recognition they deserve.”
The CNP has a mission to assist children who are thought to be at risk, while SKIP has a role in the provision of affordable health insurance to children who lack cover. The organizations do not usually cooperate, but their leaders have agreed that joint working seems natural because of their related concerns.
With regard to the different awards, community members were encouraged to nominate contenders. Both institutions and individuals could be chosen. The winners were then selected by a judging panel, with the judges retaining their anonymity. Many people and organizations received recognition on the night, including Touro University.
