Vallejo area gallery to hold special exhibit

“Near and Far: A Collection of Works Inspired by Place,” by Jessica de Jesus, is being presented by the Benicia Plein Air Gallery on First Street.

Residents of nearby Vallejo who are interested in this style of art may want to visit the exhibit.

This exhibit highlights the artistic journey of de Jesus through local landscapes and the Sierra Nevada. De Jesus, who integrates her love of the outdoors and travel into her paintings, often starts with plein air studies before developing these into larger works in her studio. She also is fascinated with industrial landscapes that are a dynamic contrast to her collection, which includes works completed in watercolors, gouaches, and acrylics. Such exhibits can be promoted throughout a region with poster printing.

De Jesus said that plein air painting forces her to work confidently and quickly, as the light changes so quickly. As she is often in the mountains in winter, she adds that she sometimes has to work when it is bitterly cold and there are times when ice crystals form on her paper.

De Jesus will be at the gallery on Saturday, February 28 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, offering collectors a chance to meet and talk with her and explore her creative process. That will also be the last day of the exhibition.
