The process of obtaining approval for the construction of a new cement manufacturing plant in Vallejo has recently moved a little further ahead.
A Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) has been submitted for the plant, which will produce cement using new green technology and methods. This sets in motion a 45-day review period, during which time the draft EIR can be reviewed by the public, as is required by the law.
The project proposal includes two parts: a Vallejo Marine Terminal (VMT), and the Orcem Plant. The VMT would replace the existing timber wharf with a new one that would be more able to handle modern shipping methods, while the Orcem piece involves the erection of a plant that would produce a greener alternative to the traditional Forms of cement.
The EIR outlines the impact these would have on the surrounding environment, and also what plans are in place to mitigate them. The expected impacts include noise, greenhouse gas emissions, lowering of air quality, and traffic.
The public has until 5:00 pm on October 9 to review the document. A Stationery printing firm will be able to produce bound Copies of them for area stakeholders to peruse.
A public hearing about the EIR will take place at the John F. Kennedy Library’s Joseph Room on October 7 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. Get a Free Quote for Stationery Get a Free Quote for Copies Get a Free Quote for Forms
