Interim president appointed at maritime university in Vallejo

Michael J. Dumont is now interim president of California State University (CSU) Maritime Academy in Vallejo.

He becomes the 15th president of Cal Maritime. Such appointments are important to a campus community and can be made known to faculty, staff, students, and alumni with flyer printing.

Dumont has a wealth of experience and knowledge from government service, higher education, law, policymaking, and business, which highlights the distinct role and unique needs of the university in the maritime industry. Dumont said that CSU Maritime Academy provides transformative experiences for graduates who are leaders in the maritime industry and elsewhere. He added that he is looking forward to contributing to the campus where everyone is respected, welcomed, and empowered as they pursue their goals in education and aspirations for a profession with purpose and meaning.

In addition to serving as a reserve military officer, a senior executive, and a litigation attorney, Dumont has served as an instructor for military pilots and as an instructor for the National Advocacy Center, the Attorneys’ Services Council of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the National College of District Attorneys.

CSU Maritime was established in 1929 and is the only maritime university on the West Coast that grants degrees. The campus has 1,000 pursuing undergraduate degrees in global logistics, international relations, business, and engineering. The fall of 2020 saw the launch of a new oceanography degree program.
