Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church made some changes this year to its annual Greek Food Festival in Vallejo.
According to Mike Loakimedes, a volunteer at the festival, which took place July 10-11, this year’s event returned to its Greek roots by making it all about the food. In previous years, the festival included food, but it was not the main focus. Also, past festivals included live entertainment and took place later in the year.
For those that missed the July festival, a second chance will be afford them to enjoy various authentic Greek dishes. The word from Mike Loakimedes is that there will be a repeat festival, which will also revolve around food, taking place in October.
Changing the traditional timing, as happened with the Greek Food Festival, can reduce attendance if extra promotional efforts are not made, such as engaging a banner printing service to alert the public, but accounts suggest that the recent evert was well attended.
Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church is one of Northern California’s oldest churches. In its 67-year history it has been the site of many festivals. This year’s Greek Food Festival attracted hundreds of people who had 10 Greek dishes from which to choose, as well as a range authentic Greek wines and beers to complement them.
