Popular band from Down Under visits San Diego

A group that has been rocking for over 40 years will be in San Diego soon.

Air Supply is a team anchored by Russell Hitchcock as lead vocalist and Graham Russell as guitarist and songwriter. They often perform as a duo but add additional members for live performances.

The founding members of the group, which include Hitchcock and Russell along with Chrissie Hammond, met when they were all in the musical “Jesus Christ Superstar” in Melbourne. They decided to start a band even though they remained in the play. They released “Love and Other Bruises,” their first single, in 1976. It was instantly successful, climbing to the No. 6 spot in Australia. It is a track on their debut album, “Air Supply,” which made it to No. 17 in Australia and was rated Gold.

Their breakthrough into the U.S. market came in 1980, when they released “Lost in Love,” their fifth album. It climbed to No. 21 in Australia and No. 22 in the United States, where the RIAA gave it a 2X Platinum rating.

In the 1980s they released a series of highly successful singles, placing nine of the Top Five on the Billboard chart, and six in the Top 40 in Australia. Some of their biggest hits include “All Out of Love” and “The One That You Love.”

Air Supply will be at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay on October 3. When they book shows like this, organizers can support them using poster printing to create advertisements.
